| After a grueling week of time trials and
scrimmages only the top 17 skaters prevailed. The 2003-2004 Squirt "A"
team looks to be as strong if not stronger than the successful
2002-2003(24-10-3) Flyer team. The coaching staff has all three coaches
returning from the team last year,
Wade Storey (H),
Andy Leapaldt (A) and
Mike Cooper (A). Expectations are high despite only two returning
players from
the team last year which finished 4th in the
Flyer International Tournament. Being the only two returnees
Alex Olson and
Brock Erickson will be the two anchors on the blue line for the
Flyers. After a week of practice the team is already starting to gel and
improving at a great pace. Head coach Wade Storey feels that the team is
more advanced this year in comparison to where the team was last year at
this point. "I feel that we are a lot further down the line at this phase
in the season than we were even last year" said Storey. The Flyers first
opponent will be the Spuds of Moorhead this Saturday Nov. 15 at 5pm. The
game will be held at the Moorhead Youth Arena. |

Moorhead |
 |
| Saturday Nov. 15 at the MYHA the
Spuds took it to the Flyers beating them 4-0 in what was each
teams season opener. The Flyers which will play in Grand
Forks on Sunday couldn't seem to find any scoring in game in
which they took 7 penalties for 14:00 minutes. Although
the flyers spent nearly an entire period in the "sin bin" they
still created a lot of scoring chances posting 21 shots, none
of which that could find the twine between the pipes. Moorhead
out shot the Flyers 29 -21, but the Flyers had more of the
quality scoring opportunities, fate just so had it that all
the bounces were in favor of the Spuds. All in all it
was a it was a game of ups and downs for the Flyers.
Their next game against the Grand Forks Blues Red will be a
tough test too see how this team will respond to some
adversity.

After a tough defeat not
only twenty four hours earlier the Flyers had a tough test to
see what they were made of having to play the Grand Forks
Blues Red. After getting blanked in the season opener,
the Flyers were hungry for some scoring, and score is exactly
what they did. The Flyers Scoring was led by defensemen Brock Erickson who
recorded two goals on four shots and Eric
Brenk who tallied two
assists. Six Flyers in all put pucks in the back of the
net and four players had two points. The Flyers
positional players put the points on the board but not to be
outdone was Flyer goaltender Daniel Naylor who
recorded the first shutout of the year on twenty-two
shots. Naylor was as strong as you can be between the
pipes in a game that brought the action to the Flyer end in
spurts and in odd man rushes. Naylor helped the
defensive core become more aggressive with his solid
play. In a game filled with scoring coach Andy
Leapaldt donated the game
puck to Daniel Naylor for his superb play in the net.
The Flyers responded well posting seven goals after putting a
goose egg just twenty-four hours earlier. This was just
the team effort the coaching staff was looking for. The
Flyers next game is Nov. 22, 3pm against West Fargo Packers at
Southwest Arena. |

 |
| The Flyers
begin the second weekend with a win over the Packers of
West Fargo 8 -1. The Flyers centerman
Dana Naylor had a
memorable game tallying five assists. Forward
Jake Hintz led all
scoring with two goals after being snake bitten up to this
point in the season. Once again goaltending was at a
premium in the Flyer end of the ice. Goaltender
Andy Seter allowed
one goal on 20 shots thrown his way by the Packers. The
duo between Naylor and Seter is a great commodity that the
Flyers have. Tomorrow will be another good test for
the Flyers as they take on the Alexandria Cardinals. |

 |
|
The Flyers headed into Alexandria, MN on a roll and ready to play.
The Flyers in their second weekend of play outscored the opponent 17
- 2. When you score in bunches and get great goaltending it is
a ferocious combination. Once again the goaltending for the Flyers
was top notch. Daniel
Naylor allowed one goal on seven shots to force his GAA to
rise from zero to .66 for the year. Once again the Flyers had
multiple players with multiple points against the Cardinals.
No Flyers were better than Erik
Brenk and Bill Carlson who
each had a hat trick of their own. The Flyers came out buzzin'
led by Carlson who put the Flyers on top by netting the first two goals.
The defensive core not only kept the Cardinals from putting the puck in
their own net, but contributed on the offensive side of the puck as well,
producing six points between the five defensemen.
Justis Garret recorded
three assists and Dana Naylor
put his first puck in the in the back of the net. After the game
the coaching staff was all smiles as the team was hitting on all
cylinders and put forth a great team effort. "When we put it all
together like we did tonight, with a good team effort, there aren't
too many teams that can beat us" said head coach Storey.
